Teishin Nyudo Sadashige

This is a masterpiece katana by the famous Gassan smith Teishin Nyudo Sadashige. Sadashige was a student of Takahashi Sadatsugu (first living national treasure swordsmith) and his father Imai Sadashige (one of the most respected war-era smiths). Sadashige was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Asset of Saijo city in the early 70s and was a highly ranked smith at the time of his death in the 1980s. This long and wide katana has a Nanbokucho sugata with o-gissaki and is strongly reminicent of the works of the Bizen smith Nagayoshi. The hamon is a wild choji-ba with sunagashi running the full length on both sides of the blade. The hamon is filled with kinsuji and inazuma. The jhada is ko-itame with thick ji-nie becoming yubashiri in places. This is a wonderful katana that I have added to the site to show the quality of work japanese swordsmiths are producing today.

Nagasa - 29 7/8"
Moto-haba - 1 1/2"
